Hi all Noob to the Droid world and need help!

Hello everyone. I'm new to the world of the droid but not modding. I wasn't going to get one but someone offered me a one week old Motorola Droid for my Ipod touch. So I traded now I'm lost I have a droid that he rooted and has 2.2 but have no clue as to were to go from here.

My question is, do I need to know what rom/package he used or should I start from scratch and unroot it? I tried to get his help but he was about worth less after the trade.
