Asus may have two new Android tablets – the Transformer Prime and the Transformer Prime TF700T with its 1920 x 1200 display – but there are still many users who own the older Transformer model.
Last week, the rumor was that the old Transformer would be updated to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich “by early February.” Asus North America said on Facebook that the update is “in the process of being approved by Google,” and “once that is done we will be able to push it out to you guys.”
Official confirmation for a "mid-February" update came today via Asus' European Facebook page. Just like it’s taking Google awhile to push out an Android 4.0 update to the Nexus S 4G, so too is it taking Asus some time to upgrade users of the original Transformer TF101 tablet. The Transformer Prime received its ICS update (and then some) last week, but it looks like the company is waiting until mid-February to ensure everything is working smoothly on the Tegra 2 platform.
Some Asus Eee pad owners are currently experiencing issues when trying to update to ICS, Asus' Gary Key says the company is aware of the issue, has successfully reproduced the bug, and is working on a fix. Hopefully the problems will be worked out soon, and won't be cause for further delay for the original Transformer update.
