OK, I have been running this for a while & I love it but now, can I upgrade to the new frogo? Can I apply a theme to this? What version is this, all my phone has is FRFxx? Sorry for the questions, but I couldn't find the answers. Thanks.

I putted froyo to my non rooted phone, I was trying to fix the google maps with abd but when going to root it says permission denied, so I went and tried to put the update.zip to get root but when I try to do it I get after verifying package E: error in /sdcard/update.zip (status 7) .
Installation aborted

Can anyone please help?

I have followed and downloaded the file from this thread to get froyo

Thank you

I would not recommend anyone update to 2.2 without root. My wifi no longer works and without root, I can't load a new ROM or do anything to fix it. I'm just praying that the OTA update will overwrite this.

For anyone who wants to do this to get flash video, you're going to be disappointed. I can pretty much guarantee that any website that doesn't already have a mobile site with 3GP video isn't going to have video optimized for mobile, which means it's going to be so choppy you won't want to watch it.

Don't waste your time. Root or wait it out.

I updated without any problem at all. My WiFi works great, in fact, it picks up wireless networks that my computer can't pick up. I've never rooted my phone so I can't give you any advice about loading a new ROM but one of the other posts in this forum topic had similar issues because of updating a phone that was previously rooted and Trident told them to go back to their original firmware first before trying the OTA force update. I did this update yesterday and haven't had any issues since. In fact, my virtual keyboard is now working better than before and everything is functional. I definitely am glad I did the update and I will be doing it on my friend's phone for her as well.

I originally had trouble with the upgrade but I ended up finding out that my update.zip file that I downloaded was corrupted. I re-downloaded the update.zip file from one of the other mirror download sites provided in this forum thread then went through the update process again and it was successful. In fact, everything is working better on my phone now than it was before. Anyway, I would suggest that you re-download your update.zip file from a different mirror site listed in this thread and try it again. The person that created this thread said that there were so many people downloading the file that some of us would get the error from a corrupt file and it was his suggestion to try a new download.

If you don't have a rooted phone, you can use this guide to update to Froyo. I just updated yesterday and, yes, you may apply a theme to it. It works very similar to your current Android OS (probably 2.1-update). After my install, my version is 2.2 build number FRG01B. If you go to my weblog, it will link you back to this forum with the exact instructions that I used to install my Froyo 2.2 as well as the links for downloading it. I was able to do it all with just the update.zip, I didn't need any other software for rooting or anything. The address to get to the links I used is:

That looks like the same instructions and filenames but I don't know if the contents are the same as I used. After I successfully updated my phone, I created a post on my blog linking back to the exact forum thread and files I used to update my phone. After my install, my version is 2.2 build number FRG01B. If you'll send me a private message with your email address, I'll upload the exact update I used to my public folder on my MobileMe account then I'll email you the web address to access the file. Since it's 42.5 MB I can't directly email it to you so this is the only way I know to get you the exact file I used.

Well, I guess the third time is a charm. Downloaded again and installed. Seems to be working now (although it seems a bit touchy right now...)

Thanks to StephC for keeping me calm and the suggestion to try again with a fresh download.

Glad it finally worked for you. The only thing I can't see is how to get the WiFi tethering to work (or did they leave it out of this version). There's a link online to the flash upgrade but no instructions how to install it so that's my next project. To anyone that can't get it to work: Keep trying.

I wen't to your weblog downloaded the files tried out the 2 files and still the same error, what I do not understand is that adb when putting root says permission denied but on the rom I have the ninja and when some apps try to get root they are listed in the ninja.

Thanks

I think you may have answered your own question to a certain extent. You say you have the ninja ROM. This procedure/update is only for non-rooted phones that have the original ROM. I've never rooted my phone or put a different ROM on it, so I'm really not the one to ask about ROMs and rooting but Trident is the guy that put up the thread that I followed (the one that I linked to in my weblog). I would recommend looking for a post from Trident and seeing if you can contact him because he seems to know about doing the Froyo update as well as the whole rooting and ROM world as well. Good luck to you.

Steph what I said is that on the froyo I updated I have a NINJA icon that says super user permissions, but when I try to shell to the phone via adb and put root it says permission denied, so I just want to know if I have root or not, thats why I am trying the update.zip that is supposed to give root access.

Thank you

After I have done this does this mean my phone is rooted?

I followed these instructions a couple of days ago. Everything worked fine for a few days. Now my phone is basically useless. It locks up constantly. I think everything is trying to run at the same time. Is there a way I can go back to go back to stock 2.1 and let the update take place through verizon?

Sorry if this has been covered, but is there a fast and safe way to remove 2.2 from my OG droid? I rooted using nandroid and have been having small problems. Now that the officila version has been released, I would like to just get the ota update.
