2. Click, "Root my Phone"
3. Click "Allow" when app requests SuperUser access
4. Allow SPRecovery to be flashed on your phone (Droid 1 only)

Quote

Voila, your 2.1 Android handset is now rooted with a custom recovery (SPRecovery). Do not attempt this if you're running Android 2.2. We don't yet know the ramifications.

So far we only tested DMUpdater 12 on the Droid 1, and it worked flawlessly. However it also supposedly works with the DROID X and HTC Evo 4G, but has not been confirmed on our end, so be wary. DO NOT FLASH SPRECOVERY ON ANYTHING BUT THE DROID 1. Also, note this version is still considered a beta, so it may not always work as intended. Let us know how it worked for you. With such an easy tool available, now is as good a time as any to root, dontcha think?

THANK YOU DROIDMOD!!!!!

man, wish i would have found this last week when i was rooting my droid... i downgraded to 2.0.1 or whatever the stock version is then rooted to froyo 2.2. this would have made things much easier. if you did this would you be able to then move from 2.1 to froyo 2.2. i know you wouldnt have the sp recovery image but would there be some other way to upgrade to froyo after doing this.

From all I have read, this does not work on 2.2... You have a high chance of getting a brick. :)

Can anyone out there confirm whether or not this DOES or DOES NOT work for the X? Since the author and creator has not yet verified it yet I'd like to see if anyone was successful using this method for the X. Thanks for all the hard work regardless.

Try the Ninja, I had same problem I re-authored, "click on bullit in right margin" was red with line thru it. Changed to green and application again "saw root."

I'm trying this now on my EVO 4 with 2.1 and it keeps stopping at "waiting for rootshell. toggling wifi"... then it reboots the device... still not rooted ...

I'm obviously missing something... ideas?

I installed and tried this on my X. Wanted to update to newer version on Market, I said OK. New version fails to install, says it was not signed properly. Now I can't use it at all, had to use Easy Root. :emo_im_wtf:
