What do you think of this new bootanimation for the R2D2 Star Wars D2 phone. I find it rather snazzy and would like to get this to you. So download the zip file below and install this right over the top of your old bootanimation.

Install Directions:

DroidX/D2 :
1) Download to root of sdcard
2) Restart in Koush Recovery - via bootstrap
3) go to mounts and storage
4) select mount system
5) go back out and select install zip from sdcard
6) select choose zip from sdcard
7) Navigate to and select your zip to install
8) reboot phone

Droid 1:

1) Download to root of sdcard
2) Restart in Recovery
3) select install zip from sdcard
4) select choose zip from sdcard
5) Navigate to and select your zip to install
6) reboot phone

P3.. couldnt help but notice 2 things.. the package has all the additional audio AND startup audio which I dont think the D1 will make use if.. or am I wrong?

yes and no, it will make use of notification, ringtones etc, but D1 is not able to play startup sounds.

I just tried this, didnt work on my Droid X. I think its because I had to rename the file to bootanimation.zip. All I get is a black screen then boot

edit: Got boot animation to work you have to extract the zip file and go system>media within the folder and copy that bootanimation.zip to your system.

Also I dont know if the droidx will do the sound. I have it in the same folder as the boot animation got any ideas

Just downloaded and installed on my d 1. It worked but was slow with animations. Looked like it was in slow motion.

I have tested all of these on my D1 clocked at 1000Mhz and they all run fine. I chose that speed because it matched the stock speed of my D2 for comparison.

I installed them manually, not that it should make any difference

Animation works good on my D1. Haven't checked the ringtones and such yet.

I got boot animation to work on my X but no sound. Seems like we all need help with getting sound to work.

I got the animation to work with Root Explorer but no sound, any one know how to do it with Android Sys Recovery?

Ok, I just copied the r2_r2d2_pu.ogg into my notifications folder and use it ask the default notification and it gives the impression of the R2 sound when it reads the SD card in the beginning. Of course if you use the default Driod Sound for your notifications you will hear this on all your alerts so make sure you want to do this.

Worked great on my Droid X, like others no sound, but love it anyways.

I don't think there is supposed to be sound in the boot animation, if you install the zip through custom recovery it also adds the sounds to your ringtone and notification tones menus. R2 is my new alert tone!

Man, those Black Hat guys get all the cool stuff eh? I put this on my D1, but my D1 boots up too darn fast and made it to the lock screen before R2 ever came out. Good problem to have... :)

I did this and still no sound. Just the R2D2 screen and the ringtones. However, I notice that there are multiple ringtones with the same names. Not sure why though.

Yep. DX with 2.1. Rooted and Bootstrap.

only got animation, no sound. still great tho. and once it gets out of the animation it goes, DROIDDDDDD! hahaha i love it tho. thxs!

I am running a D1 and I installed to root of sd and after the Motorola logo I go straight to unlock screen. Totally skipped animation????
