HELP!! Need to root a Droid X that has stock 2.1

My apologies. Ergon properly advised me that I should start this post on its own thread. Thanks Ergon and here goes:
brian, I have been reading through this thread this afternoon and it seems pretty clear that you and ergon are the foremost experts on rooting a Droid X. One of my reasons for wanting to root (eventually) was because I was sure that someone out there had an app that would make the phone a 3G Hotspot without paying the extortion fee to VZW. (Similar to the app "Walking Hotspot" that I was using back in the days of SloMo (Windows Mobile) phones. All I've seen so far is your reference to wireless tether which might be sufficient since I would be the only one needing that type of access for the moment.
I carefully read your instructions on rooting the DX with 2.2 (which must be a leaked 2.2 since neither VZW/Moto have officially released a 2.2 update for the D2 yet). I was wondering what the process would be for a NOOB with a DX (stock 2.1). Can you point me in the proper direction (including the wireless tether).
I've gotten a bit fed up with the constant promises of 2.2 coming by 'late summer'. If VZW does finally provide the update, then I'll most likely be contacting you again for instructions on taking the phone back to stock so that I can get the update. Then I'll most likely root it again so that I can move onto a different ROM.
Anyway, maraming salamat (many thanks) in advance for your guidance.

I have heard that said as well. However, I have also seen in many Droid websites (including this one), that Verizon is playing hardball and that a user that has a "leaked 2.2" version will have to go back to 2.1 and get a legitimate version in order to receive updates.

BTW Arte, where can I find the link for "easy root"?
