VZW Casio G'zOne Commando Android phone

Thanks to Mydroidworld poster moosc's tip of VZW's soon to be released Casio Android based G'zOne Commando. The G'zOne line is Casio's cell phone equivalent to the popular GShock series watches. The Commando introduces Casio's phone line with the Android operating system, that appears to make quite a combination.

The rugged nature of the G series implies an outdoor sporty lifestyle. The Commando comes preloaded with the following tools for the outdoors err person:

Earth Compass
Walking Counter
Adventure Training
Thermometer
Tides
Sun/Moon
Star Gazer

Specs are rumored to be Android 2.2.1 with a 3.7 in screen and powered with an 800 MHz processor. The important features for this phone aren't the specs but the rugged durability of the handset.

The manual states:
The CASIO G’zOne Commando™ is water resistant. It provides reliable performance for outdoor activities, and in wet conditions such as driving rain or high humidity

So there you have it. Not necessarily a phone for benchmarks and speed, just good old smartphone for the avid outdoors-person.

I can not believe the Lack of Chatter on this Phone. I know so many people that have killed their Droid in water, or from Dropping it. I would think the insurance would be half price on this phone. I know the " specs" are not top shelf.. but this is still as fast as most current phones. I have seen them already at huge discount on Wirefly and also on Amazon.

I've noticed this phone. I came from owning a Casio Boulder and Motorola Barrage. The Boulder was exceptionally sturdy but the software was buggy as hell. The Barrage had better software but it was a fragile POS. For me a smartphone like this should be right up my alley. Unfortunately I have pretty big hands and the DX, because of it's large screen, was the only smartphone I ever found usable. The next version might be for me but I'm definitely taking a pass on this one. I'll look for one running a bigger screen and GB.
