WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT YOU DO WITH YOUR PHONE, THEREFORE TRY AT OWN RISK.

So, you just got your Motorola Droid. Looking around, you see people talking about ROOTING, custom ROMs and so on. Please read What is the Root and why do I need it? Once you get information and decide what you want to do, you start wondering "Where do I start?"

First, make sure you familiarize yourself with the following:

Here are the steps and the order you need to follow them in >>

You MUST do those 3 steps first before you will have the ability to modify your Droid. Once those steps are complete, you can go ahead and select the custom ROM or any other desired modification, and proceed.

Congratulations, your Droid is ready for big changes now!!!

Most of your links in this post are invalid and going to other site forums I get the same thing. Did Google or Motorola block all the custom rom info?

ranman says MOST of the links, so after some testing; i've got to conclude that he might have been having some connectivity issues, as even the external links (ADB, Moto USB drivers, etc.) are all working. Also, ranman, since you are getting the same types of errors on other sites, perhaps it is a browser issue. The first thing I would try is emptying the browser cache.

The usb debugging, usb debugging drivers, micro sd mounting, root your droid, and set up custom recovery image all take me to a page that has vBulletin Message Invalid Thread specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the administrator. With the BlackberryOS.com link at the bottom of the page that reminds me how simple it was to change the os on my storm compaired to the droid. I kid of miss the storm now.

I tried again and still got invalid thread message, I cleared my history and cache logged back in and no change, the way my lucks running I'm not going to try anything with my droid today. I have plenty of time to brick it.

ranman, sorry about the error you are getting. We are currently updating the pages. What information are you looking for? I can get you the information you need. The pages will hopefully be back up sometime this afternoon. If there is any help you need we can provide that too.

Please Login HERE or Register HERE to see this link!

just download the correct drivers for your pc. (32 or 64bit)

To connect in debugging mode just go to settings>applications>development and enable debugging

To mount your sdcard plug your device into your pc via usb cable> place your finger on the notification bar and draw it downwards>select copy files>mount sdcard

root your droid made easy this is an older guide but still very effective

Thank you, I've rooted my droid and downloaded and installed everything but still can't flash the recovery image. When I reboot holding X my screen comes up with an exclamation mark in a triangle and no idea how to proceed from there. Can anyone help?

When I enter the second code and enter it says cannot open for read: Permission denied. That is where I'm stuck.

So what you need to do is go to your phone menu or app screen and tap on ninja icon (superuser permissions), then a pop up will come up asking to allow access...so check box to always allow, then try entering command on pc again. ;)

Ok...then when you type the code and check the droid screen, because you may have a permission pop up. :)

No permission pop up. I can't even get far enough to screw up anything. I would wait for an update but we all know how long that could take Verizon.

Yes it accepts the adb shell but not the dd if=/sdcard/flash_image of=/data/local/flash_image copy and paste same result.
