This rom is my own creation based on the best (in my opinion) features available from other roms. I've found it super stable and pretty darn fast. This is my daily driver, and I'll always keep updating it for myself, but if there's enough interest, I'll release new versions here as well.

I'd like to thank all the rom developers before me, especially Bigxie(aka Fabolous), Mobile_Sensei, and Jrummy. Without their work, the blur based roms would suck.

A little about the rom:
I've always liked just a little bit of blur to make sure my phone can use 100% of its features, like hdmi, 720p recording, multiple mics used in video recording. I also hate the blur email app for exchange usage. So, I threw out the garbage, and brought in some goodies. Yes, there's two galleries (3D and blur) that's because I like the blur camera but love the 3d gallery. Keeping both just makes my experience more smooth. After switching back and forth from rom to rom, liking one feature here and another there, I began compiling my own apps and settings to run on my phone. I figure it's time to share and see what everyone else thinks of it.

Installation:
You should be able to install this coming from any 602 or 605 rom. Recommend you have baseband .13p already.
  • Download To SD-Card
  • Bootstrap With D2 Bootstrap & Reboot Into CWR
  • Wipe Data / Cache / Dalvik Cache
  • Install the zip
  • Reboot
  • Go through initial setup

**Enjoy**

A little about the vortex script:
Options:
-Mount system for read write
-Mount system for read only
-Enable startup scripts (enabled by default)
-Disable startup scripts (in case you have some kind of issue)
-Fix CWR Reboot Option(only use if having superuser fc's and you've cleared superuser data)
-Set App install location to SDcard
-Set App install location to Internal(Default)
-Set App install location to Auto
-Change Carrier Text (changes pulldown text)
-Reboot phone (just in case)
-Exit Menu

Run the script as su in terminal emulator and use the menu
Also available are shortcuts:
As su, run the script with options:
vortex -rw (will mount system as read write)
vortex -ro (will mount system as read only)
vortex -enablestartup (enable startup scripts)
vortex -removestartup (disable startup scripts)
vortex -fixEmail (one time fix for moving from aosp email to cm7, v1.2 to v1.3)
vortex -fixCWR (will restore the superuser database to grant the reboot from power options su permission)

Know Issues:
  • None

No one is trying v2.0 out? HA! Installing as I type. Will report back in a few.

EDIT:

-Made a backup 1st
-Wiped date (factory reset from CWR)
-Wiped Dalvik (my not be necessary but can't hurt)
-Installed VorteX 2.0 zip
-Booted phone (enjoyed boot animation & waited (LOL!)

I skipped activating with Google sign in (tap the 4 corners on the screen starting from upper left corner) to set up wifi right away.

So far it looks and feels pretty good.

Cool thanks. I like Orange River. After I restore my apps and get fully charged then I'll try some themes. Oh, gotta go back and flash the Camera Panorama zip too.

Wanted to see if anyone who has used Darkslide X had tried this and could offer some comparisons on the 2 ROMs. I'm a fan of Blur based ROMs and am curious about this but I've also been on DSX for several months now with no issues so I wanted to hear others' experiences/thoughts on Vortex 2.0 before making any moves. Thanks!

2.1 updated in OP.
Changes:
-Camera fix included
-Latest Market
-Latest Superuser
-Latest Droid2 Bootstrap

Also added a 2.1 revert to stock zip to return you from any theme.

No need to wipe data from 2.0, just wipe cache.

Thanks for updating. Downloading v2.1 right now. On v2.0 I did have one random reboot. It may have been caused by my undervoltage settings.

One other lil tiny detail. After the boot animation, once "VorteX" appears there is a thin white line that appears at the very bottom of the screen. It's not there during the animated beginning, it's only when "VorteX" pops up. I know, very minor detail but you and I both seem to like perfection. Hope that helps. Not picking bro.

Nice stable ROM. I used it while doing contract work....couldn't afford my DX acting up during those missions.

Great, now someone else noticed that white line... I noticed it first thing, and have been forcing myself to focus on other things before I fix it.

Glad you like the rom so far. When I get a chance, I'll take care of that pesky white line. (I probably accidentally dragged the wormhole layer up a bit and didn't notice)

This will overwrite framework-res, so if you have a theme installed, you'll loose some of the theme customizations. If you install a theme after applying this, you'll probably loose the reboot option. I'm working to update the themes to support this as well.

When tried to restore data only from a stock 602 rooted back up, I bootlooped. So i factory wiped and all others and kept looping. Is this rom not built to accept a Nan restore. I like it, but don't like starting from scratch because Google doesn't restore all my apps. Or how can i port other data into the rom from a nandroid?

I don't think the data from a nandroid of stock 602 will work, only because I've got a few aosp apps like email, mms, calendar. I used titanium backup to restore user app data. Only thing it won't restore is call logs and texts, but I know there's an app available to backup/restore texts, don't know about call logs.

Cool cool. Maybe my root backup will work. Titanium is good I've used it as well. Thanks for clarification! Edit : all good ready to rock!

I downloaded yesterday and am loving it so far. Very stable and really like the battery life. Showed it to someone at work who has had a lot of problems with stock and almost have them convinced to try it out. Had a couple problems with my contacts but that was on my end because google wont update contacts from my phone like it should and not having backup assistant cause me to use a workaround. I have tried Shuji, SSM v3 and a few other and like this the best so far.

Version 2.2 updated in OP.

Changes:
-Reverted back to market 3.1.3
-Updated to superuser 3.0
-TBH tether patch applied on install
-Reboot in power options included

I'm still trying to get a good working market version 3.1.5. Also still working on porting the rest of the themes to include the reboot option.

Thanks to Wulf for getting blue and orange river themes updated so quickly.

Not sure if its the same thing I have but on mine sometime when you close the screen,ie...hit the power button at top to close the screen, it will go to the end of the boot animation and will restart everything like you just booted up. It also did this on rooted stock too though. Also on the update, is that just cache or dalvik also.

Yeah, no need to wipe data unless you are on a VorteX pre 2.0

It was a problem with .596? I experience it with DarkslideX, and was looking for comparison to Dsx. But if you dont know what it is, then likely its not there. thanks

also, to go from darkslidex to this, simply sbf to Full 2.3.340 Official sbf and then do ota updates? then root and follow install instructions from first post?
